Author Visits

For information on rates and availability, please send an inquiry via the contact page.
A typical school visit day includes two to three presentations (depending on school size), lunch with students, and personalizing books for those that pre-order. Some schools choose my author presentations for Pre-K through 3rd or 4th grade and request my Writing Seeds Workshops for older students (3rd grade and up). I can speak to smaller groups or large assemblies.

Once a visit has been scheduled, a sample book order form will be emailed so students may pre-order books if they’d like a personalized copy of one or more of my books.

dsc00480School visits for elementary schools

50-minutes of high-energy, fun and fact-filled interactive presentations including research and writing inspirations, as well as tree, bee, sea, and rock information to support nature, science, and environmental education. My multi-award-winning picture book books support current core standards for writing, math, and science curriculum, and encourage critical thinking skills through research and writing. My picture books are sometimes labeled in libraries as “literary non-fiction” as my stories are filled with non-fiction elements about the nature subjects I have thoroughly researched and included within a fictional story structure.

Schools visits for middle schools or high schools

50 minutes-1 hour interactive, in-depth author presentations sharing my personal research, writing, revision techniques, and the hands-on submission and editing process for publishing magazines articles, picture books, and novels. This type of visit to upper grade students is often paired with a Writing Seeds Workshop (see below).

Writing Seeds Workshops

A writing workshop to help plant creative ideas through research tips, as well as character and plotting exercises to develop story seeds to grow stories, essays, or poetry. I share writing techniques I use in writing my books and in my research as a freelance journalist for publications such as The New York Times, Parenting, The Writer.
